AIP Paleo Balsamic Berry Salad

I love bringing this AIP Paleo Salad for lunch in the summer. The simple balsamic dressing just goes so well with the berries.

Did you know that avocados are considered to be a berry by botanists? From Wikipedia: “In botany, a berry is a fleshy fruit without a stone produced from a single flower containing one ovary. Berries so defined include grapes, currants, and tomatoes, as well as cucumbers, eggplants (aubergines) and bananas, but exclude certain fruits commonly called berries, such as strawberries and raspberries.”

Balsamic Berry Salad

  • Salad greens (preferably with some spinach in the mix)
  • Strawberries (quartered) (16 oz package)
  • Blueberries (6 oz package)
  • Raspberries (6oz package)
  • 1 large avocado, cubed
  • 1/2 lemon
  • Shredded cooked Chicken (I like to get a rotisserie chicken to shred for this)
  • 1/3 cup Balsamic vinegar
  • 1/3 cup Olive oil


  1. Squeeze the juice of 1/2 a lemon (or lime) over the chopped avocado and mix together, this keeps it from turning brown if you are storing the leftovers.
  2. Add the salad greens, avocado, quartered strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and chicken into a salad bowl or if you are meal prepping, divide them into 5 tupperwares (if you are meal prepping)
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the balsamic vinegar with the olive oil, mix well by beating with a fork or by shaking, divide into 5 containers if you are meal prepping
  4. When you are ready to serve the salad, toss in the dressing and enjoy!
