Healing Autoimmune Disease at The Source

I am starting this blog to keep track of my progress with the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP). AIP is similar to the Paleo diet except it does not include eggs or nuts. I was diagnosed with Grave’s disease, an autoimmune thyroid disorder, over 10 years ago. Anti-thyroid drugs have worked well to control my symptoms but I want to treat my autoimmune condition at the source. There is published evidence that gut permeability and food sensitivities can underlie autoimmunity. I hope that by following AIP I can heal my gut and immune system.

My Journey to the AIP Paleo diet

I have been gluten free since August 28, 2017 (4 months now) and so far it has not improved my Grave’s disease. In fact, my Grave’s disease has gotten worse since starting. This might be because I have increased my consumption of other common allergens like corn. It is time to eliminate other common allergens and inflammatory foods from my diet to see if that helps.

I Am Ready For This

I feel ready to start this restrictive diet because for the past 4 months, I have been prepping all of my meals in advance for the week. Meal prepping makes it much easier to stick to a restrictive diet because you are less likely to stray from the diet if you already have a meal prepped that conforms to the diet. It is basically impossible to eat out if you are doing AIP or paleo so you really have to be consistent with meal prepping to succeed at it.

My Blog Goals

I will use this blog to document good AIP/and paleo recipes that I find, to keep track of how different foods make me feel, to keep notes on what I learn along the way, and to talk about anything related to my healing journey. I hope I will be able to help others in their journey to healing autoimmune disease!
